Nora Syida, 30, from Klang had posted in the "Masak Apa Tak Jadi Hari Ni (MATJHN)" Facebook group, saying that she was extremely disappointed when she saw that the RM1 Nasi Lemak packet that her husband had bought back was covered in ikan bilis guts and entrails.
She said that she normally doesn't cook on the weekends, and hence her husband had bought nasi lemak packets from roadside stalls that only cost RM1 per packet.
"When I opened the banana leaf and saw the guts and entrails, I felt very disappointed. Even though its only RM1, but if I was a hawker, I wouldn't do this to my customers!"
She said that she wouldn't have minded if the sambal was plain, but cooking the ikan bilis guts with the sambal was not acceptable.
"This is the first time my husband had bought from this hawker, both packets we bought had ikan bilis guts, hence we'll boycott him and never purchase from him again."
Ms. Nora also stated that she was not intending to drag or expose the hawker as she didn't include the stall name. She just hopes that the public will be more aware when eating out.
"My mother also sells nasi lemak and she always provides the best for her customers, why can't other people do the same?"
Her post received many comments from other users who had faced the same issue. She stated that even though the nasi lemak only cost RM1, its food quality should also be taken care of.
"There are hawkers who would crush the ikan bilis guts and entrails and mix them in with sambal," one user commented. "I've seen people purchasing ikan bilis guts and entrails before, I thought they were used as fish food, to know that they're mixed in with our food, my god!"
"I think some people wouldn't mind though," said a user. "Same goes to prawns and crabs, some people don't clean those properly either."
