Security at Meru, Klang's large morning market has been bad. Vendors and stall owners there often have to deal with break-ins, theft, snatch-theft and some even had their windshields smashed. "We're losing more than we're earning at this point!" says the vendors.
To solve these concerns, the Klang Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCCI) are intending to install CCTVs in the market. The group also suggested that the police build a security booth and employ a security guard at the location to minimize the chances for the thieves to steal.
According to the KCCCI director who spoke to SinChew's reporter, they had stated that there has been 8-12 cases of windshield-breaking thefts at Meru's largest market.
"Although these cases have ceased these two months, other thefts have been happening to the stall owners and vendors of the morning market. Their goods have been getting stolen, including vegetables and fish, putting them at a great loss."
He explained that the thieves would carry away entire boxes of goods, especially stall owners who sell vegetables and fish recorded the most losses. Every time the vendors get ready for their day, they notice that 1-2 crates of their goods would be gone. While a lot of vendors start setting up during wee hours of the morning, the thieves may have took an advantage of the darkness.
Because of the LRT3 construction, some vendors have been asked to temporarily shift their stalls outside the premises of the main market, making them easy targets for thieves. The stall owners never reported their cases to the police because they think it's a waste of time and no action would be taken in the end. He also said that because of the construction that's going on, the plan to install CCTVs can only be confirmed after the construction is done.
