A boys' hostel for a religious school on Jalan Sungai Bertik here caught fire Sunday (April 25) night.
However, there was no one in the building as the students were out performing terawih prayers at the time.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said 70% of the third floor of the three-storey hostel building was burnt in the incident.
“The rooms that were on fire housed 43 students, who were all away during the incident,” said Norazam.
He said fire engines, water tankers and Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicles rushed to the scene from the Kota Raja, Port Klang, Kapar, Shah Alam and Subang fire stations.
About 30 firemen were involved and the fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes.
