Residents at Lorong Sultan Abdul Samad would throw garden waste which include trimmed branches, leaves and even old tyres beside the drains - which leads to clogging that disrupts the drainage system, flooding the area every single time it rains.
Klang city councellor Mr. Lee Fu Haw, who was in charge of the area had told reporters that he noticed local residents disposing of trash and waste irresponsibly beside drains. There were even more trash inside the drains as well.
He explained that he had recently received feedback from local contractors who were responsible for the area's waste management that
while they were clearing up the trash, some drains had already collapsed. Apart from the hygienic factor and Dengue concern, the flooding situation may escalate due to these drainage issues.
"Even so, we noticed that the trash heaps mainly consists of garden waste. The residents may be concerned that the trees will topple as it has been raining frequently, hence they may have made their own decision to trim these tree branches. Unfortunately, these garden waste were not disposed of properly - placing them beside drains would cause these branches to be swept into the drains when the rain pours, which
then disrupts the drainage, making things worse."
He also added that apart from safety concerns, the overall townscape would be affected in a negative manner.
In conclusion, he advised local residents to dispose of trash and waste in a proper way by stashing them into plastic trash bags and tying them properly so the garbage collectors will be able to collect and dispose of them properly.
