Prolonged heavy rainfall had resulted in flash floods in five areas around Meru yesterday afternoon, 6 March 2022.
The rain started at around 4pm which caused flooding in Jalan Teratai, Jalan Kenangan, Taman Meru 3 and 9 as well as Pekan Meru. The water level was less than 0.5 meters and no evacuation had been done so far.
Selangor Fire Director, Norazam Khamis said, his party, with a team from the Kapar Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), rushed to the scene upon receiving information at 4.25 pm.
“We found that the heavy rain was what caused an ankle level flashflood at Jalan Teratai, Jalan Kenangan, Taman Meru 3 and Pekan Meru. However, the situation at the location was under control and the floods began to recede after the rain slowly stopped," he said when contacted today.
Norazam explained that his party also received an emergency call regarding the flash flood in Taman Meru 9, at 5.58 pm this afternoon.
“Monitoring found that the incident was caused by a clogged drain but receded soon after. About 10 houses were flooded but came back under control and no evacuation was done. We are ready to face any eventuality and will conduct continuous monitoring at the location, "he said.
