A month-long plan of smuggling untaxed liquor by a group have been foiled after being ambushed by the authorities in Taman Klang Jaya on 21 February.
The group is believed to have used lorries and cars to move the liquor to certain locations before being sold in the local market.
However, the plan was not able to make it past the Port Klang Marine Police Force (PPM), who arrested three men involved. They also confiscated some alcohol in the parking lot at about 12 noon.
PPM Region 1 Commander, Assistant Commissioner Shamsol Kassim said the arrest was made as a result of information and intellect from his party which was conducting Op Kontraband.
He said that during the raid, the three men aged 23 to 32 were transferring the liquor behind two lorries.
"The results of the inspection later found that they were transferrering untaxed liquor. Apart from that, another car, a Toyota Estima was detected to be involved in similar activities in the area.
“All the confiscations of liquor and vehicles are estimated to be worth RM653,534. A check found the three suspects detained were two locals and an Indian respectively. All the arrests and confiscated items were brought to the Port Klang PPM Base for further action,” he said.
He added that the case was investigated according to the Customs Act 1967 and the Immigration Act 1959/63 while the arrests and seizures were handed over to the Investigating Officer of the South Klang District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further action. - Utusan
