The Selangor state government detected fraud in flood relief applications, with the majority coming from Petaling and Klang districts.
Selangor Menteri Besar YB Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the actual number of false applications have not been confirmed.
“I have yet to receive the accurate numbers but we had to take more time to filter out duplicate applications and remove them.
He also said that they had also detected overlapping applications from heads and members of the households affected by the recent floods, which required further screenings.
“To overcome the overlapping and to ensure a fair and just distribution of the aid to the deserving victims, the district offices are re-screening the data and they are now in the final stage,”
On the next course of action, the Selangor Menteri Besar said that his party will still be prioritizing the welfare of flood victims - wanting to distribute aid as soon as possible before taking further action on the fraud cases.
The media understands that there are various cases of fraudulent flood relief applications, including divorced couples who still live in the same house who made two different applications, apart from the applicant living in a stratified house and not affected but asking for home repair assistance.
In the meantime, he said, until now, more than 60% of flood victims have received assistance from Selangor Bangkit (BSB) with a distribution of RM55 million as of last Thursday, 4 February.
