A fire broke out at a double-storey shop lot in Klang, Meru on the 15th of January 2022. A man broke his hands and feet when he jumped off the burning building to escape.
Sir Amimuddin, the operational commander of the Fire and Rescue Department, issued a statement stating that the authorities received a report from the public at 9:42 a.m. that a fire broke out on the first floor of a shop lot at a commercial area at Klang, Meru, and immediately dispatched 3 fire engines, 2 water tankers, a ladder truck, a fire ambulance and 27 firefighters to the scene to carry out fire fighting work.
He said that after the police arrived at the scene, they immediately evacuated 12 immigrants - specifically 7 men, 2 women and 3 children trapped in the fire to a safe place.
"A man opened the window and jumped off the building before the firefighters arrived. His hands and feet were broken from the landing and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital."
Sir Amimuddin said that 80% of the area of the unit was destroyed by the fire, and the authorities have sent forensic officers to investigate and find out the cause of the fire.
