Previously struck by a serious flood, Klang's flood victims had their land deed's damaged by water. But when the victims applied for a new land deed, they faced a fine of RM400 from the government.
Pandamaran state assemblyman Tony Leong Tuck Chee will be assisting the said victims and demand for a fee waiver from the Selangor state government.
Documents damaged or lost in a natural disaster should be updated and replaced free of charge. Unexpectedly, three families from Pandamaran whose land deeds were damaged during the flood, faced fines when applying for a replacement.
Pandamaran state assemblyman Tony Leong Tuck Chee disclosed that the Pandamaran Service Center received a total of 3 requests for help. The land deeds of 3 families in the constituency were damaged by the flood, and they had to pay a RM400 fine in order to get a new land deed.
When interviewed, he revealed that when these villagers applied for a new land deed at the Land and District Office, the authorities demanded for a RM400 payment and said that they could only receive a new land deed after paying the fine.
"The flood damage in Pandamaran is not serious, only a few homes were affected. However, any damage to official documents caused by natural disasters should be replaced free of charge."
He also said that he has submitted the case of the land deed to the state government. He hopes that the state government will review the issue and exempt the related fees as much as possible.
