Klang district's COVID-19 cases in September has dropped drastically. According to the Ministry of Health's data, as of 13 September, Klang has recorded 6,667 new cases, compared to the numbers from one month ago, which was 25,850 cases, new cases had decreased as much as 74%.

Even though the decrease in new cases is great news, the number of fatalities were a huge contrast. From 108 cases to 549 cases, the rise of death cases makes it hard for local residents to assess the current situation of the pandemic.

Klang city councellor Mr. Lee Fu Haw had stated that compared to July's 0.9% and August's 0.4%, death rates had never exceeded 1%. But in September, death rates leaped to a staggering 8%.

The death count for August was amounted at 399, while 13 days into September, we have already recorded 549 death cases.

"We understand that the government had stated that they were clearing off backlog data, but it's been two weeks and the data has yet to return to a normal ratio. How long exactly has these deaths been backlogged?"

He also stated that the Ministry of Health should clarify how long has these deaths been backlogged to provide a clearer view of the current COVID-19 situation in Klang.

"Even though the cases have dropped, the Ministry of Health should reconsider applying strict measures to continue testing for asymptomatic
carriers within the community. This includes strict contact tracing, putting on quarantine wristbands for close contacts and sending patients who had tested positive to quarantine centres."

Apart from that, he also stated that the death cases may be rising due to the fact that many were forced to self-quarantine at home. And because of that, they could not receive treatment in time when their symptoms worsen.

Finally, he had asked local Klang residents to remain resilient as the COVID-19 battle was not over yet.
