Klang's COVID-19 situation has not seen any improvements. On August 5, the Klang district recorded a jaw-dropping 2,451 cases, the highest cases recorded within Selangor's districts. Among the recorded cases, almost 96% of them are community cases with unknown infection sources.
On August 4, Klang had 2,951 cases. Compared to all other states and federal territories, the number of cases in Klang is equivalent to eight other states in total. This means that our cases consist of almost half of Selangor, if not, half of the nation's cases.
While other states are recording new highs, their numbers are still small compared to Klang. For example, Kelantan broke 1,000 daily cases on Wednesday. This would be Kelantan's highest daily case count thus far, but yet the number is only a third of Klang's recorded cases.
Klang has consecutively recorded worrying numbers since the beginning of August.
August 1 - 1,946
August 2 - 1,637
August 3 - 1,929
Klang councellor Lee Fu Haw had stated that among the new daily cases, only 113 cases are linked to existing clusters. Which means that the remaining 2,838 cases are community cases, and almost 96% of them are from unknown sources.
From the cases mentioned above, only 516 of them (16%) of them come from employee/staff screenings. They believe that they could have gotten infected from the community, and then accidentally brought the virus back to their workplace.
He also mentioned that the Ministry of Health had allowed first and second stage patients to self-quarantine at home, without issuing quarantine bracelets. This could be the main cause of the rising community cases.
"Back then even with quarantine bracelets, there were already people still walking around during their quarantine period. Now without the quarantine bracelets, how do you expect the situation to be controlled?"
