As per announced by Majlis Keselamatan Negara (MKN) on July 16th 2021, Jalan Batu Nilam, Bandar Bukit Tinggi has been placed under enhanced movement control order (EMCO) while the rest of Klang and Selangor returns to the previous version of movement control order.
The unclear instructions led to a panic among the residents in the area - because Jalan Batu Nilam itself only had a petrol station and a Lotus supermarket. After clarification from the South Klang Police, the lockdown area is located at Jalan Batu Nilam 15's Bukit Tinggi 1 apartments, which
would affect approximately ten apartments, 986 units and 4437 tenants.
YB Dr. Gunaraj George ADUN Sentosa also stated that the enhanced movement control order in this area is set to last for 14 days, from July 18-31.
"This can be taken as good news as KKM will conduct mass-screening among the residents, and those who test negative will be given the vaccine immediately for safety precautions."
Anyhow, he advised local residents to stay calm and follow the instructions given by the police while maintaining the relevant SOPs.
Klang councellor YB Lee Fu Haw also stated that the government should not have announced the targeted EMCO one day earlier as it would cause the residents and foreign workers to panic and escape from the area. The panic is also caused by the spread of fake news. He said that the government should announce the lockdown on the day itself to avoid loopholes.
At the moment, the EMCO area police allows outsiders to deliver food and basic neccesities to the tenants. There are also no activity restrictions within the area itself, and hence residents are able to receive resources and packages without a problem.
All shops on the ground floor are not allowed to operate. As of July 18, the area had recorded more than 224 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including
a death of a non-local.
