As of 20th April 2021, around 65 schools in Klang Valley has reported positive COVID-19 cases, with 15 of them being Klang campuses. Student attendance rates has dropped drastically in several schools due to the rising risk of campus infections.
The Pandamaran DAP disinfection team has been actively lending a hand to affected schools that have requested for their help in terms of disinfecting and sanitizing.
Although most cases were transmitted outside of school premises, once the virus enters the campus, parents start to worry about the health and safety of their children.
Parents of the students from SJK(C) Chung Hua Klang even organized a small peaceful protest, raising banners that asked for the temporary closure of the school to lower the risk of cross infection. This happened after three confirmed cases were detected from the same class. The school only announced a self-quarantine period for the affected teachers and students in the said class instead of the whole school, but for the worried parents, it still doesn't seem safe for their children to return to class.
The school management has also clarified the situation, that the decision to close the school can only be made by the Health Ministry and not the school management themselves. Depending on the infection chain, the Health Ministry may deem it unnecessary to close the entire school as the infection happened outside of campus. But if the infection was found to be transmitted within the school campus, the school will be shut down.
So far, 10 schools in KL and Selangor have been temporary closed due to the number of confirmed cases within their premises.
Some private schools that have confirmed cases among their teachers or students have opted for temporary closure and going back to online classes for the time being due to the surge of campus cases.
