The movement control order (MCO), which is set to expire on 4 February, will be extended for another two weeks with the implementation of stricter measures.
Senior Minister for Security Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said all states except for Sarawak will remain under MCO until 18 February.
He also said that the decision of the government was made due to the high number of COVID-19 reported daily by the Ministry of Health. Cases and infectivity remained high in all states.
Details of stricter measures will be released in due time, said Ismail, who gave an example of imposing limits on the number of people entering a supermarket.
