COVID-19: Prime Minister announces MCO in Selangor, KL

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has just announced the Movement Control Order (MCO) for Selangor, KL, Melaka, Penang, Johor and Sabah. 

The MCO will start from 12:01am - 13th of January (Wednesday), for fourteen (14) days, until 26th of January.

“Our healthcare is at a breaking point,” Muhyiddin said when explaining the drastic decision.

“The states that will be implementing MCO are stated as high-risk according to the Ministry of Health where their respective health systems have reached it's maximum capacity. The Ministry of Health will reevaluate the risk continously throughout the duration of MCO to see if it will be ended or continued after these two weeks."

"To flatten the curve and lower down the risk of infection, social activities that include large groups such as wedding celebrations, events, religious events (including Thaipusam), meetings, seminars and sports are not allowed to be held. For states under CMCO and RMCO, social activities are allowed with strict SOPs. Inter-state travelling is not allowed for the entire nation, for states that are implementing MCO, inter-district travelling is also forbidden."

The people will be limited to travelling within 10km radius for states affected by the MCO. For purchasing groceries and daily necessities from markets or grocery stores, only two people are allowed from each household and only two people are allowed in one vehicle. Anyone who breaches this rule will be fined for a maximum of RM1,000. Restaurants in MCO areas only allowed to operate for takeaways, delivery. Those in CMCO/RMCO areas allowed to operate as usual with SOPs in place.

For the economy sector, the government have determined five (5) sectors that are deemed the 'essential economic sector' and will be allowed to operate during this period of time. This includes - Manufacturing, Construction, Service, Trade and Circulation, Farming & Commodities. Even so, only 30% of staff in the Management sector is allowed to be in office. 

Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) will be implemented in Pahang, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan, whereas Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) RMCO will be implemented in Sarawak and Perlis.
