Confirmed COVID-19 cases has been surging in the Klang district, and yet the people doesn't seem to be vigilant regarding the pandemic. Most residents think that the cases consists of mostly foreign workers, but it is reported that 30% of community cases do not belong in any clusters - and hence are considered unclassified.
As of January 6th, Klang has recorded 16,443 cases, which means there are around 5,000 unclassified cases that have unknown sources.
MPK Council Member Lee Fu Haw previously said to reporters from China Press - that according to the reports from Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah Klang (PKDK), Klang has found many unclassified cases that do not stem from any of the existing clusters and the majority of these cases involves local residents.
He said, according to the distribution map, these unclassified cases are spread out all over the Klang district. There are so many hotspots that the map is covered in red markings.
"Cluster hotspots are normally very concentrated, these unclassified cases are the opposite, they are very scattered and spread out in the community."
He also stated that, these unclassified cases typically records mild symptoms, or are only found out right before plane boardings, operations or pre-employment screenings. As most these confirmed cases only experience mild or no symptoms, the infected person would not be aware that they carry the virus until they have went through screening and tested positive.
"There are always positive community cases when a mass screening is held in Klang, and hence you can see how serious the situation has become. The virus is now in our community."
He urges fellow Klang people to remain vigilant towards preventing the spread of the virus. The cases no longer only involve foreign workers and we should do our parts in protecting our family and communities from the pandemic.
